The RF series was born from a zero-compromise pursuit for acoustic perfection. When challenging our top engineers with the question “How do we develop the world’s most effective acoustic panel?”, the RF series was their silent —and highly sound-absorbent— reply.

Compared with traditional acoustic panels, RF panels absorb more sound using better methods, in the most efficient way… but these panels do more than just absorb sound.

The traditional methods of absorbing and blocking sound are achieved through distinctly different, incompatible methods. The resulting trade-off between sound absorbing and sound blocking performance requires prioritizing one over the other.

Owing to their highly innovative, patented construction, SoundPly RF panels eliminate the need to make an acoustic concession. They provide such uniformly exceptional sound absorption and sound blockage; the RF series’ NRC and CAC test results have established new benchmarks for both categories and in the process redefined what is possible with an acoustic panel.

While other micro-perforated panels require large cavity spaces, additional acoustical batting, and complex installation assemblies, the RF panels are a fully-contained acoustic solution. The significance of this is difficult to overstate, since it eliminates one of the greatest frustrations acousticians regularly express—the chronic discrepancy between an acoustic system’s advertised, laboratory-certified performance, compared to that system’s actual, real world performance.

Unlike nearly every other architectural acoustic solution, the exceptional performance RF panels achieve in laboratory testing is the exact same performance they deliver in real world installations.

BEYOND ACOUSTICS.​

Like the other SoundPly panel series, RF panels can be provided with a single primer coat, or painted in the full spectrum of colors and sheens. 

Among all the surface treatment options, the most popular for SoundPly panels is wood veneer. Hundreds of real wood and reconstituted veneer species are available in stock, and can be finished in a variety of custom stains and topcoats.

The RF Series panels feature MicroPerfection® technology, resulting in the most advanced, effective micro-perforations ever integrated into an acoustic panel. Achieving maximum acoustic performance required engineering a process to precisely manufacture a new type of micro-perforation—one that’s smaller, cleaner, and three times deeper than any currently produced.

A key component of MicroPerfection technology is the panel’s percentage of effective micro-perforations. Over 99.97% of the micro-perforations on SoundPly panels are open and functional— a distinct advantage over the 35-38% of open micro-perforations on other manufacturer’s acoustic panels.

Dynamic Sound Control is one of the most significant benefits of the RF Series’ highly effective use of porous and resonant sound absorption. Most types of sound absorbing materials, including porous materials, experience a reduction in absorptive capacity in response to an increasing sound pressure level (SPL). Resonant absorption does the opposite.

An increase of SPL causes the principal form of acoustic energy conversion to shift from thermal viscous friction —occurring inside the passages of each micro-perforation— to a more effective and sound wave disrupting process called vortex shedding, which occurs at the outlets of each micro-perforation.

As sound levels rise, the diminishing effectiveness of porous absorption is offset by the improved efficiency of the resonate absorption. By providing more uniform absorption across the full spectrum of decibel levels, Dynamic Sound Control helps prevent environments from sounding too “dead” at low sounds levels, while supplying excellent absorption at high sound levels, when it’s needed most.

The advanced SPCore technology is responsible for the RF Series panels being 5x stronger, 60% lighter, and over 2x more dimensionally stable than other acoustic panels. The face and back of every RF panel consists of a fiberglass-reinforced sandwich of durable, dimensionally static composite layers. 

A combination of pressure and heat fuse the outer layers to the inner core’s structural components, resulting in a uniformly sealed, torsionally rigid, monocoque structure.
