The SoundPly SC series is designed for use in traditional acoustic systems that employ a pass-through panel, in combination with a sealed plenum or cavity space, to dissipate sound energy. Compared with other micro-perforated pass-through panels, SC panels provide cleaner aesthetics, better acoustics, and higher structural stability.
The SC series is a direct response to the poor performance and long-term stability issues common with the majority of other architectural micro-perforated panels, which are constructed using drilled MDF and particleboard cores.
An inherit flaw with drilled cores is that any improvement in acoustic performance comes at a loss to the panel’s structural integrity. A maximum amount of 35-40% of a panel’s core can be drilled out before the panel becomes too unstable to consistently manufacture and safely install. Even with 35% removed, a drilled-core panel is highly susceptible to long-term instability including sagging (from binder fatigue in the core), and warping (from seasonal environmental changes in temperature and humidity).
SC panels provide 2.5x better warp and sag resistance compared to drilled core panels, while also allowing measurably more sound energy to pass-through. Each of the hundreds of thousands of micro-perforations on the surface of the SC panel are functional and open, allowing sound energy to efficiently pass into the panel’s core.
In addition to allowing sound energy’s passage, the SC’s porous wood wool core provides considerable absorption of both the incident wave and the reflected sound waves inside the plenum/cavity spaces. The core of the SC panels also possesses excellent moisture resistance and antimicrobial properties.
As is typical with traditional acoustic ceiling and wall systems, additional sound absorption can be achieved by adding layers of acoustic batting behind the panel.
Like the other SoundPly series of panels, the SC series can be provided with a single primer coat, or top-coated in a full spectrum of painted colors and sheens. Custom graphics and images in sizes up to 4′ x 8′ can be printed on the panels using a 1200dpi, UV-cured printing process.
Among all the surface treatment options, the most popular for SoundPly panels is wood veneer. Hundreds of real wood and reconstituted veneer species are available in stock, and can be finished in a variety of clear or custom stain finishes.
The SC Series panels feature MicroPerfection® technology, resulting in the most advanced, effective micro-perforations ever integrated into an acoustic panel. Achieving maximum acoustic performance required engineering a process to precisely manufacture a new type of micro-perforation—one that’s smaller, cleaner, and three times deeper than any currently produced.
A key component of MicroPerfection technology is the panel’s percentage of effective micro-perforations. Over 99.97% of the micro-perforations on SoundPly panels are open and functional— a distinct advantage over the 35-38% of open micro-perforations on other manufacturer’s acoustic panels.

As is the case with all acoustic systems, real-world installations typically provide significantly less acoustic performance than what was achieved in the precisely controlled conditions of a laboratory.
The only way to achieve real world acoustic performance identical to the performance inside a laboratory is by using a stand-alone acoustic panel, such as the SoundPly LR or RF series.
